Product Configuration Specialist

Product Configuration Specialists perform all configuration related tasks associated with product release while monitoring, recording, and controlling change to maintain product integrity. Product Configuration Specialists shepherd the product development team through the various development stage gates ensuring all documentation requirements are satisfied. They also plan product builds and technical product releases.

Duties:

Product Configuration Specialist I

  • Provide Leadership - Leads the development and implementation of Configuration Management standards, processes, systems and tools. Provides guidance and expertise for the development, analysis, and compliance verification of process and product baselines of highly integrated complex products.
  • Analysis - Analyze, process and track change orders and other design documentation to minimize processing time, optimizing department throughput. Deeply evaluates complex product structures. Works in a data driven environment, drives process improvement, analyzes systematic issues and implements solutions to challenging problems.
  • Teamwork - Works cross functionally to process changes, structure new products and issues concerning product configuration. Provides input to project team on schedule, issues and deliverables related to master product data management. Provides support for Project Managers for Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRL) and other Configuration Management (CM) or Data Management (DM) requirements.
  • Change Management - Provides technical recommendations to a wide variety of problems related to configuration and change management. Coordinates the product changes within the engineering and manufacturing environment.
  • Communication - Communicates with all levels of management and presents data and metrics to support the configuration management function.
  • PLM Systems - Responsible for implementation, maintenance and audit of configuration management aspects maintained in several systems. Reviews change requests for impact to current product structure and impact to various departments and requirements. Follows change requests to full implementation, including tracking the release of engineering orders and change notices associated with each request. Design forms and workflows while working with the Information Technology department to implement PLM tool changes.
  • Responsible for seamless, rapid and global implementation of material, Bill of Materials (BOM) and product data supporting the business strategies and supply chain requirements.
  • Drives timely part setup, BOM releases, and BOM changes to support new product introduction
  • Supports global master setup for products from early development through end of life.
  • Serves as company-wide resource for master product configuration.
  • Participates in continuous process improvements focused on systems and reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Product Configuration Specialist II & III

The Level II and III Product Configuration Specialists perform all of the duties described for the Level I position with increasing level of complexity and scope.

  • Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the configuration management field is required
  • Strong analytic problem solving and resolution ability
  • Green Belt or Black Belt Certification preferred.

Qualifications:

Product Configuration Specialist I

  • Required - 5 years of experience with configuration management
  • Required - Experience with organizing and/or supporting Configuration Control Boards
  • Preferred - Experience with QAD or an equivalent PLM tool
  • Preferred - Experience with Solid Works or similar CAD program
  • Required - High school diploma, GED, or trade school education
  • Preferred - Bachelor degree (BS) in Mechanical, Production or Industrial Engineering (or related field equivalent)

Product Configuration Specialist II

  • Required - 7 years of experience with configuration management
  • Required - Experience with organizing and/or supporting Configuration Control Boards
  • Preferred - Experience with QAD or an equivalent PLM tool 
  • Preferred - Experience with Solid Works or similar CAD program
  • Preferred - CMII Certification or other industry recognized certification
  • Required - High school diploma, GED, or trade school education
  • Preferred - Bachelor degree (BS) in Mechanical, Production or Industrial Engineering (or related field equivalent

 

Product Configuration Specialist III
  • Required - 10 years of experience with configuration management
  • Required - Experience with organizing and/or supporting Configuration Control Boards
  • Preferred - Experience with QAD or an equivalent PLM tool
  • Preferred - Experience with Solid Works or similar CAD program
  • Preferred - CMII Certification or other industry recognized certification
  • Required - Bachelor degree (BS) in Mechanical, Production or Industrial Engineering (or related field equivalent)
  • Preferred - Advanced Degree in field is desirable but not required.

     

Travel

  • Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time; both domestic and international travel may be required.
  • Typical work related travel assignments range 2-5 days, and as such overnight, out-of-town stays are required.
