Senior/Staff Electrical Engineer

Description:

Electrical Design Engineers are responsible for aspects of complex projects related to product design and development, with focus on innovative electronic and software aspects.

Duties:

Sr. Electrical Engineer

  • Provide Leadership - Works on a cross-functional project team through all phases of the product development process, providing guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members. Plans and executes projects from concept through launch.
  • Execute Design Process - Works closely with other members of the project team and physicians to define user needs, generate design concepts and develop detailed designs. Provides guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members in all aspects of design execution.
  • Execute Design - Performs design and analysis on hardware and software architecture and requirements. Leads design activities on medium complexity design elements (e.g., analog, digital, software, power, EMI/EMC, electrical safety, user interface). Leads detailed design/implementation activities through others when appropriate. Leads evaluation and corrective action associated with external product assessment (e.g., IEC 60601). Supports development of product and process validation plans and testing.
  • Intellectual Property - Strong understanding of patents. Executes limited patent searches to understand current state of the art and potential white space. Contributes to business value through innovation and patent filing.
  • Prototype and Ensure Manufacturability - Works with manufacturing engineering and suppliers to produce prototypes and optimize designs for manufacturability.
  • Supervisory Responsibility - May be responsible for accomplishing work through outside resources (e.g., consultants, contractors, design suppliers)
  • Flexible - plans and prioritizes multiple activities and tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Staff Electrical Engineer

Note: It is
assumed this level is capable of the duties described for the lower level
positions.

  • Provide Leadership - Leads cross-functional project team through all phases of the product development process, providing guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members. Plans and executes projects from concept through launch.
  • Execute Design Process - Works closely with other members of the project team and physicians to define user needs, generate design concepts and develop detailed designs. Provides guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members in all aspects of design execution.
  • Execute Design - Performs design and analysis on hardware and software architecture and requirements. Provides technical expertise and leadership for high complexity design elements (e.g., analog, digital, software, power, EMI/EMC, electrical safety, user interface). Leads detailed design/implementation activities through others when appropriate. Leads evaluation and corrective action associated with external product assessment (e.g., IEC 60601). Supports development of product and process validation plans and testing.
  • Organize - leads aspects of project management including scope definition, scheduling, budgeting, and contingency planning. 
  • Intellectual Property - Strong understanding of patents. Executes patent searches to understand current state of the art and potential white space. Contributes to business value through innovation and patent filing. Effectively works with outside council and other IP experts.
  • Supervisory Responsibility - May be responsible for accomplishing work through outside resources (e.g., consultants, contractors, design suppliers)
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Engineering Tools - Skilled in the use of electrical and software design tools (e.g., modeling, simulation, requirements capture).

  • PC - Skilled using Microsoft Office Applications.


 

Travel

  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time; both domestic and International travel may be required.
  • Typical work related travel assignments range 2-5 days, and as such overnight, out-of-town stays are required.

Qualifications:

Senior Electrical Engineer

  • Required - Equivalent of 7 years related work experience
  • Preferred - medical device experience
  • Required - Bachelor degree (BS) in electrical engineering (or related field equivalent).

Staff Electrical Engineer

  • Required - Equivalent of 10 years related work experience
  • Preferred - medical device experience.
  • Required - Bachelor degree (BS) in electrical engineering (or related field equivalent).
  • Preferred - Advanced Degree in field is desirable but not required.
